A List Of Things That Have Helped Me Calm Down
Whether it’s painting, playing music, or writing, engaging in a creative activity can be a great way to channel your emotions in a positive way.
As life gets faster and the demands seem to increase, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. I’ve compiled a list of things that have helped me calm down amidst the chaos of everyday life. These practices have helped me recenter and I hope they can offer you the same peace they’ve brought me.
Meditation : I started practicing meditation a few months ago, and it has made a huge difference in my ability to stay calm and centered. Just a few minutes of deep breathing and focusing on the present moment helps me unwind.
Exercise: Physical activity has always been a great away for me to release tension and clear my mind. Whether it’s going for a run, playing squash or attending a fitness class, getting my body moving is a great way to relieve stress.
Journaling: Sometimes, it can be helpful to put your thoughts down on paper. I like to write about what’s bothering me, what I’m grateful for, and my goals for the future. This helps me process my emotions and gain perspective on what’s really important.
Talking to a trusted friend or family member: It’s important to have a support system you can rely on. When I’m feeling stressed out, I often reach out to a close friend who can listen and share perspective. Just having someone to talk to can be incredibly comforting.
Mindfulness: Being mindful means being fully present in the moment, without judgment. I try to practice mindfulness throughout my day, whether it’s by eating my breakfast a little more slowly, paying attention to the sights and sounds on my walk up the school hill, or simply taking a few deep breaths throughout the day.
Reading: Reading has always been a way for me to escape from the stresses of daily life. Getting lost in a good book can be a great way to relax and recharge. I don’t have a favorite genre of books, I find what I need at that moment and reach for it.
Doing something creative: Whether it’s painting, playing music, or writing, engaging in a creative activity can be a great way to channel your emotions in a positive way.
Taking a break: Sometimes, the best thing you can do when you’re feeling overwhelmed is to take a step back and give yourself a break. Whether it’s taking a nap, going for a walk, or just watching your favorite TV show, taking time for yourself can help you recharge and come back stronger.
Getting organized: When things start to feel chaotic, I find that getting organized can be incredibly calming. Whether it’s tidying up my room or making a to-do list, having a sense of order can help me feel more in control.
Practicing gratitude: Finally, practicing gratitude is a great way to shift your focus away from what’s stressing you out and towards the positive things in your life. Every day, I try to think of three things I’m grateful for, no matter how small they may be.
