Eliminating Food Guilt
The beauty in not labeling food is that it eliminates any shame and guilt you may have once had after eating something, and instead of beating yourself up about it, you can move on with your life. It is important to look at the ingredients in food and what impact they will have on your body.
Food has a significant impact on mental health, and the way you view food could potentially be hurting you. Diet culture has labeled many different foods as either “healthy” or “unhealthy” which signals a distorting message to everyone and can be incredibly destructive to the mind and body. The problem with distinguishing certain foods as one thing or another creates an unhealthy relationship and perception of the bodies’ source of fuel.
Every food is made up of different macromolecules that benefit the body differently. There are macro and micro-molecules that your body needs to be able to function every day. It is important to keep in mind that everyone is different and has different needs, but no one should feel bad after eating something because other people claimed that it was “bad for you.”

For example, is this food going to energize you? Is it going to fulfill your craving? Is it going to make you happy? Labeling food can also lead to being overly restrictive and not listening to your body. This only leads to binging and the self-hatred that follows. Life is about balance and having everything in moderation. Being able to see the benefits from certain foods, whether it is energy, happiness, or satisfaction eliminates the urge to binge, restrict, and/or feel bad about enjoying delicious foods.
If you learn anything from this blog post, it should be that food has so many different benefits for both mental and physical health. Eat a variety of foods that work for your body and make you feel good, and remember, no labeling, no restriction, and no shame!
